I have a Panasonic DMRES10 dvd recorder and I have connected it to a Humax PVR 9200T, when I play the humax and select AV2 on the Panny, it either comes out with a black and white picture or no picture at all. Now it just no picture.
I am using a QED Squart scart lead, so not a cheappy jobbie either.

Can you help me, spent ages last night trying to sort it out.

cheers

Not quite sure I understand you exact problem. If you're playing back on the Humax, why are you selecting a scart input on the Panasonic?

Can you tell us the connections that you have in more detail please? Which Scart socket on which device is connected to which other Scart sockets and so on. Include connections to your TV as well.

Also check the Scart socket settings, ie RGB or composite.

It sounds as if you have either the input to the DVDR set to S-video and the output from the hummy set to CVBS or the other way round or the DVDR is set to NTSC instead of PAL.
Try adjusting the output from the hummy in the preferences menu and if that fails check your manual on the Panny.
As a check move the scart from the Panny to the TV. Also try re-seating the lead. It's amazing how easily scarts become dislodged - even the most expensive ones.

Very good tip this. It still amazes me how the picture and/or sound can be affected if the scart has come even slightly adrift from its socket.

Assuming it's not a physical poor connection issue let's look at the possibilities :-

The AV2 IN on your Panny ES10 can be set to any of the following :-

1) RGB/Video - will accept either RGB or Composite Video - you'll get B & W picture on SVideo signal
2) RGB - you'll get no picture at all unless the input signal is RGB
3) Video - you'll get a normal picture on Composite Video signal - B & W on SVideo
4) SVideo - you'll get a normal picture on SVideo signal - B & W on Composite

Now we need to consider which of the Hummy's output SCARTs you are using to connect to the Panny.

If it's the TV scart then this can be set to :-

1) RGB
2) S Video
3) Composite Video

If it's RGB then the Panny must be set to RGB or RGB/Video to match. Even so, pressing the Source button on the Hummy remote will toggle between RGB and Composite. If the Panny is set to RGB/Video it will respond to either although the picture quality will vary. If the Panny is set to RGB (only) then you will lose the picture when you press the Hummy Source button and regain it when you press again.

If it's SVideo then the Panny needs to be set to S Video. If the Panny is set to RGB (only) then you will get no picture. If its RGB/Video or Video then you will get a B & W picture.

If it's CV then the Panny will give no picture if it's set to RGB, a normal picture if set to RGB/Video or Video and a B&W picture if set to S Video

If you are using the Hummy's VCR scart then the output options are reduced to S Video and Composite and it's the same as for the TV scart except that RGB is not an issue.

If you are using the VCR SCART from the Hummy then I would suggest setting SVideo on this and also on the Panny AV2 Input.

If you are using the TV SCART from the Hummy then I would suggest using RGB on this and on the Panny AV2 - however be aware that the Source button on the Hummy remote will toggle the RGB off/on.

Hope this is useful!
