i am trying to download my entire music collection from my MP3 player onto the hummy. I have 19Gb of music. i have got to 5gb and cant transfer anymore. does anyone know if the hardrive has a 5gb partition for MP3/image files ?? i am using medialinker 2.1. I can see the partition shown as D1 and D2 in the top corner of the screen. D2 is reserved for TV recordings and will not allow me to put MP3 onto is. anyone know how i can overcome this - how do i reformat the hard drive and change the partitions ??

backhojo,

Yep the partition is restricted to 5GB in total for MP3 files and jpg files combined - absolute bummer, and no apparent way round this as the format option does not offer any user definable options.

I also saw a comment on another forum to the effect that humax don't plan to do anything about this either.

thats rubbish isnt it - a bit pointless as 5 GB is nothing. i was hoping to use the hummy as a mini home entertainment centre. looks like i will have to have a re-think !

I agree 5Gb is nothing these days. I guess you could try logging a call with Humax Support and see what response you get.

I too was hoping to use the hummy in the same manner as yourself i.e. an entertainment centre - no such luck as MP3 files do not output sound via the Digital Optical connection either (unless you can tell me otherwise) - which is pretty useless

Overall the hummy is a decent piece of kit, but there are some bugs that need ironing out, and features such as the 5Gb partition limit for MPs / jpg's that could do with sorting to make it a great piece of kit

I have emailed tech support and they confirm this 5gb limit. they did say that they might be looking at changing this in the future - i wont hold my breath !!! i will just connnect my excellent Xclef 40GB MP3 player to the line in socket of my amp for now. much less hassle.
do you know if the MP3 size limit applies to the topfield PVR ??

I don't suppose anyone had an update on this? I have had my Hummy for about six months now but have only recently had the idea of turning it into a home entertainment system myself, I was going to run an RCA cable to my Hi-Fi, it would be very handy. I have 30GB of mp3 and rarely go over 50% on the tv programmes I record so 30GB would be small potatoes.

Is it a standard IDE drive in there? I guess I could plug it into my PC if it is and give myself a bigger volume by repartitioning it using Partition Magic. I can't see anyway round it, I can't see Humax supplying a repartioning app in its next release. http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/brooding.gif

It's an IDE drive but of the "CE" variety. Still it should work OK in a PC. But no repartitioning software (such as Partition Magic) is going to to support changing a partition's size unless it "understands" the file system resident in the partition and can so adjust the file system to match the new size. And it won't understand the Hummy's I'm afraid. Unless someone has already done it you would have to write your own program - not a trivial task.
