mike
12-05-2007, 10:37 AM
I have upgraded the forum software we are using and have a few things left still to do.

I have looked at all in the feedback section and implemented as much as i could whilst i dont this update.

If there is anything you notice which has gone or missing please let me know.

I am already aware of the following: Downloads Section missing & not working
Affiliates Section changed
Banner rotator at top missing
Forum Portal no longer there
These are being addressed ASAP firstly the downloads section as the older software i was using was not compatible with this new version of the forum software so i have purchased the New Invision one from them and am awaiting for them to contact me with the download link then i can re-add that up.

Again if you notice anything PLEASE POST IN THIS THREAD NO-WHERE ELSE.

I had a lot of trouble logging on as the Forum wouldn't recognise my existing password. When I went through the lost password routine it still wouldn't work ,so then had to go through the second stage which did. I'm just concerned that new users might be put off by this process if it isn't corrected. GSD

When was the last time you logged in before today ?[/b]

Yesterday evening - I normally log in at least once a day to see what's going on.

By the way I've also noticed that if I log into the forum and then close my browser (normally IE7 in my case) I have to log in again with my Hummy user name and password before being allowed access. However this isn't required if I simply log out of Hummy but don't close my browser.

Previously I didn't have to do that and having opened my browser I could get access by just clicking on the Hummy link in my favourites. This happens with other more confidential websites for online banking and share dealing, but I wouldn't have thought that the Hummy forum needed that sort of security. Still it's more of an inconvenience than anything else. I hope that this helps, GSD.

Actually I just discovered that I only have to login again if I close down my PC but not if I disconnect my broadband connection. Very odd!

Later addition: Even odder is that sometimes this happens but not always! I've also noticed that the login section doesn't memorise my password now so I have to re-enter it every time. Again this is irritating but not a show stopper. GSD

Nothing to do with today's update, but I have always big problems getting the first page up; it always times out in Firefox a couple of times but when I finally succeed to get access, it works fine for the rest of my session.

When I add a reply, I am offered all sorts of goodies, bold, italics, underline, wordart, emoticons, etcbut when I click on them nothing happens?

I am using Firefox.

Any ideas, they work on other forms?

(and yes they are enabled)

I certainly haven't changed these and everything seems to work quite normally with all the other websites I use.

The interesting thing is that when I boot up my PC from cold and open the Hummy website, as I just did, directly under the big red X it says 'Welcome Back you last visited: just a minute ago', or something like that. To the right of this are two horizontal boxes for my user name and password (these are additional to the ones to the immediate right of the big red X). The odd thing is that whilst the usename box is empty, the password box has been pre-filled with blobs representing what is obviously my correct password. I know this because if I put my usename in the other box and click on Login
I'm given immediate access to the forum. Very strange! GSD

Quick Update: I've test logged in several times this morning but whenever I do it says 'Welcome Back;your last visit was: Yesterday 5.59 PM, so this obviously isn't updating properly, albeit that this is a very minor problem.

By the way I rebooted my PC just now and was able to access the Hummy forum without having to re-enter my user name and password, so perhaps this problem has dissapeared or been overcome now. I'll let you know if it reoccurs! GSD

Further Update: I've just rebooted my PC from cold having left it on standby for up to an hour and I've just been asked to enter my user name as described above. This time the welcome back message was that I had last visited the site a minute ago! Hey-Ho! GSD

Later Update: Would it help if this forum had a 'Remember Me' option like other forums I use have? If so perhaps that would enable it to remember my username as well as my password and save me having to log in each time I reboot my PC after a long break. GSD

I am having major problems posting in Firefox (2.0.0.3).

I clicked "Add Reply", wrote my response, and was told I "must respond to a post" or something.

I then replied (quoted), wrote my response to the quote, but after submitting only the quote was visible.

I tried editing the post both in full and minimal mode (Complete Edit button did nothing, except jump me to the top of the page) with no success. I have switched from rich text editor to standard in my control panel to no avail. It just seems that any text I enter is not saved.

In the end I switched to IE to edit the response to actually contain any text from me. I am on IE now.

I too have to sign in again if I close my PC down (Firefox)[/b]With Firefox you don't seem to get the "Remember Me" checkbox that you used to get, and you still get with IE. Maybe this is the problem.

NB: Also, no editor buttons are working for me.

I guess this is a Javascript issue.

I'm a bit busy now, but I'll try with my laptop as soon as I can to see what happens.

I've just tried with my laptop and I have the same Firefox issues as my PC. These appear to be: Formatting button and dropdowns don't work (as per most others)
Only the standard editor will let me submit text (anyone else confirm this?)
I tried using Ctrl+B to embolden in the rich text editor and that didn't work either, but I guess that's just part of point 2.

Oooh first post since the revamp and it all looks different....
Anyway, I use Fx 2.0.0.3 at work (this post) and home the first n times I had to login, then this time (work m/c) went in no probs. I've done nothing different but I do have my options set to "Clear private data" each time I exit Fx. (Tools - Options... - Privacy tab. The bottom box has a checkbox saying "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" next to this is the settings button - I have all settings checked except Cookies and Saved passwords.

Now the big test do the the smilies work - nope none of the drop downs seem to be working, I wonder if entering manually will do it.... http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cussing.gif

Next step is to try deleting all cookies dated the past few days (since the change) then if that does not work then try deleting all cookies - which is not a bad thing to do anyway from time to time. Also check that you are not blocking cookies from this site.

LOL why is it I always miss the obvious!!

As for the logging in - it seems quite sporadic. 1 time, no need to log on, others it recognises me when I ask to log in, but I still need to then comfirm, other times it recognises me when I arrive at the site but I need to confirm.

Last night the arcade had disappeared from the Forums menu but was available via search, though it wasn't updating the high scores (I'd put a lot of time into them http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif), now it seems to have disappeared altogether http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

The login is still pizzing me about, sometimes it remembers me, sometimes not.

Even when logged in and I refresh the screen (especially after a little time) I sometimes have to log in again; then I enter screenname etc and it rejects me, scroll down and there is another loggin panel, use that and I get in.

There is something wrong here, all my other sites work without problem.

The forums now no longer appear to know what I have and haven't read (it did before and it did after the update - seemed to stop 'knowing' towards the end of last week). So now I have to click the Mark all forums read and return to index to get it to do so. Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
