Now then all you clever and helpful Hummy users out there.
Not sure if this is a known problem with the Oak software or just peculiar to my 4 yr old laptop.
I dont have a serial port so am using a "keyspan" USB serial adaptor on a serial cable, for which the driver has installed fine. Ive set the port to com 1 and it tests ok on diagnostic. (My laptop USB ports are 1.1 so I have been using a pcmcia usb 2.0 adaptor). Whichever I use I get the same error.

I have installed the oak software and got the download for version 10 saved on my PC.
I turn off the Hummy, connect it all, fire up the Oak software and hit the download button.
I immediately get the following error message:
Invalid Device Handle, access denied (Error: -1)

If I ok that error message and power up the hummy, it sits on the "waiting for connection message" until I cancel it.

Any ideas, suggestions?

If not, when would they be likely to put ver 10 out OTA?

All advice gratefully received.

Same question as always: Are you using a null-modem (crossover) serial cable as you are supposed to rather than a straight-through cable?

Same question as always: Are you using a null-modem (crossover) serial cable as you are supposed to rather than a straight-through cable?[/b]

To ask a supplementary silly question, how do I tell if its a null cable from looking at it?

Your message leaves me suspecting there have been loads of posts on this matter already.
If so I apologise, but I did have a good look for them before posting this question.

Are you using a null modem serial cable with the adaptor??....ie pins 2 and 3 crossed over

The symptoms you describe are those that normally are encountered if using a straight through serial cable.

If you just connected the USB adaptor directly, it won't work. Adaptor and Humax will have transmit pins connected together.

Look for and buy a cable specifically marked "null modem", with the right connectors (male of female, as necessary).
