View Full Version : The Return Of The Subtitles 'bug'?

Last night I had the following situation
We were recording ITV but then decided to watch it (still leaving it recording). The phone rings so go to 'pause' – we are now 10 minutes behind real time. We return to watching ITV when a program on BBC1 starts to record.
At that point the ITV program we are watching switches to real time – i.e. moves forward 10 mins.
No problem, I rewind it back to where we were. BUT!!!!
we now are watching the ITV program with SUBTITLES! They subsequently disappeared when we eventually wound forward through the advert breaks etc. and got back to real time.
I thought the recent OTA update to .21 had resolved this one? It certainly has if all you are doing is watching one program and not recording another.
Any comments from the experts?
Ray
The situation is worse than you describe. The Humax only allows subtitles to be swtitched on and off during live watching, and also payback, it does not allow it during time-slip. And then when you go to live watching just to change to/from sub-tiltle display the sub-title button does not work as a toggle when there is just the one sub-title track, thus you have to press the sub-title button, then press the up/down key and then press OK, followed by going back to where you were watching.

Thanks Luis
At least what you explained gives me a chance to try to turn the subtitles off! I'll give it a go next time it happens.
Thanks

My machine is currently telling me that it's recording Ch3 and Ch5. It's supposed to be recording Ch3 and Ch4. I'm actually watching Ch4 in chase play and the bloody subtitles are on and it's clearly lying about which channels its recording.
I'm actually pretty pee'd off with this machine at the moment.
Cheers,
jahman
P.S. Although two channels are recording, only one current recording is being displayed in the recordings list:confused::mad:

ps There is an Edit button bottom right. No need to add another post. And it is rather gauche to hi-jack someone else's thread with a post about a different problem.

gomezz,
If you read my post carefully you'll see that I was talking about the problem mentioned in the OP, i.e. subtitles switching on of their own accord when in chase play. I took the trouble to find a post about the issue using the search mechanism and added my experience to it. I think that's good forum etiquette.
Not reading someone's post and then unjustly criticising them is not good forum etiquette, gauche or otherwise. In other words, I'd recommend you have more than a cursory read of a post before criticising the poster in future.
Cheers,
jahman

In the interests of clarity and world peace I've merged your earlier posts.
As for your problem, first I assume that you have not rearranged the channels, try powering down for a minimum of 30 seconds and powering back up (obviously when you are not recording). If that does not cure the fault a default reset (http://www.hummy.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3682)may be necessary. (follow link for which settings are reset)

In other words, I'd recommend you have more than a cursory read of a post before criticising the poster in future.I did indeed examine your posts carefully and did see you make a throwaway remark about subtitles as an afterthought to your substantive point. I apologise if any misunderstanding on my part arose simply as a result of poor clarity of expression and lack of focus on your part.

I've had to do a format and return to default settings. If I have more trouble with it I'll just try and get my money back from Humax or a replacement.

As for you gomezz, are you part of the welcoming committee? I'm having a hell of a time logging into this site so I'm beginning to think I'll just say bye bye now because I'm not impressed.
I wouldn't have posted in this thread if it weren't for the subtitles on chase play bug which would be obvious to all but a complete moron. So long and thanks for nothing.

What problems are you having logging in?
Which browser/OS are you using.
Please don't be put off posting because of one poor experience. Most of the people here are friendly and helpful as you may see by browsing other threads.
