View Full Version : Picture Freezes Then Loses Sound

After I switch my 9200T on and everything starts to work I get a picture for about a second and then it freezes followed a second or so later by the sound disappearing. The only thing I can do is to unplug it. Plugging it in again only makes it repeat this.
Any thing I can do other that go back to Comet and get it replaced under warranty?

Unplug the aerial; switch it on; if you now have control do a reset to default settings; then turn if off again; plug the aerial back in and do another reset to defaults (which will scan for channels). Let us know how it goes.

Whatever that did fixed it. Thanks very much.

Martin, thanks for your advice to memyself and I. The difference for me was that the whole machine froze on me even in the menu. After taking your advice everything seems to be working.

I had exactly the same problem as memyselfi this evening. This was after about 6 lockups over the last 6 months - which were cleared by switching off and on again.

The fix recommended by Martin Liddle seems to have fixed it - so far !

Anybody know why this is happening - will it happen agian - are Humax looking at it ?

Thanks ...

Must report the same fault. Martin's fix resolved the problem, what's going on? Is this new or a common problem that you only look up when it happens to you? Whatever, thank you Martin you saved the day!:)

It is certainly more common with 1.00.21 but still relatively rare. I suspect the problem is due to corrupt data, perhaps in the EPG, confusing the 9200. Hopefully one of the things that Humax will look at when they have time to do a bug fixing software release.

Just to add to the "Martin Liddle" praise... Today I had a power cut at home, literally half a second, not even enough to kill my pcs. However ever since the Humax has had exactly the symptoms described in this thread.
The reset fixed all and it seems to all be ok now.

Thanks all....!

Posted in another thread but today my box has started the same problems, will try the suggested fix and see how it goes.

We had a power cut here too...(actually I cut through the cable whilst cutting the grass!). Hummy did exactly the same. Pictures for a second and sound for a second longer. Couldn't even get to the menu. Return to default settings worked perfectly but I wouldn't have found solution without this website so Thank You!

Wow, Martin to the rescue, thank you so much! I have just experienced the exact same problem tonight.

I usually have my Hummy set to switch on a 7.00 p.m. every evening and tonight when I came home at 9.00 it wasn't on and wasn't recording as scheduled but it was making a 'thinks it's recording noise'.

It wouldn't switch on either with the remote or on the front button so I switched it off and on again at the back. I managed to see the recorded programs list before it froze and could see it definitely had not recorded anything.

Funnily enough I didn't think too much of it because my first thought was that it was some sort of bug because I had scheduled four programmes in a row on the same channel tonight which I have never done before (I'm sick of missing the end of Coronation Street's first episode and thought if I recorded the next programme as well it might be at the beginning of that one). So after reading this thread I gather it probably has nothing to do with it.

I don't know if this is connected but last week I had scheduled Coronation Street to record at the usual time of 7.30 and it actually didn't start until 7.58 and recorded only two minutes of it. This happened in the previous week too but recorded almost all of the programme. I wonder if this is a cumulative thing or just a coincidence.

Thanks again.

I have just registered with the Hummy site to record my appreciation to Martin Liddle for his great solution. We were close to buying a new one! Thanks. Brian W.

Martin

Thanks from me as well. Happened to one of our 9200s this morning. Thought it was going to cost me a new machine. You are a saviour!

I've just had the same problem with mine. Thought it was a lost cause. But followed the simple steps here and fixed it in minutes. Thank you very much!

Me too. Printed out the Liddle fix and stuck it in the manual. :)

What a Saint Martin is. He has saved me from buying a new machine as well.
