All was fine at the beginning of the year when I bought my 9200 and loaded some mp3's on it from my laptop via media linker. I want to add to these now but am faced with initialisation failure - all the right connection noises but cannot link up with hummy. I've looked through various rather dated similar threads but cannot believe its as complicated as some suggest. Have tried:
reinstalling media elinker (2.5)
changing connection lead with several others
changing usb port
switching off / on at back of hummy
shouting at it
Nothing works. Tell me I'm doing something daft please and suggest what it is.............thankyou.

OK, out of a very limited store of knowledge about this -Which version of elinker did you use at the beginning of the year? If <2.5 try reverting.

Does *any* external USB device still work with the computer OK? You do not mention installing and re-installing the USB ports and drivers on the computer: that is something to try.

Thanks guys.
Firstly I'm using original disk which came with hummy beginning of year. Loaded v2.5 then and repeated this the other day having first deleted the original v2.5 software.
Second, can confirm that usb ports are fine with other kit. Should have mentioned earlier that I'm using a fairly modern Acer laptop with XP. Have tried both cheap and gold plated connection leads.
Have tried to connect with hummy connected to tv etc and also with it disconnected to other sources. Still no go.

Well after quite a lot of thinking and some DIY I've found the answer and its all working. For the record it did turn out to be a usb driver problem with investigation and solution as follows.
Connect hummy to laptop
Open 'my computer'
Go to 'view system information'
Go to 'Hardware'
Go to 'device manager'
Hummy will show but double clicking on it will indicate a driver fault
Follow the route and 'uninstall driver'
Laptop will then go to a shutdown / restart mode at which point you should put the Humax USB Driver and Application disk in drive.
On restart it will 'find new hardware' if you 've left the hummy connected via usb
Follow the instructions and it will reload the driver either from xp software or the inserted disk. No need to give internet access.
Should be fine after that. Mine was.
So ......... sorry to press for help when I got there myself ------ eventually ------- but this record may be of some use to others. BTW above procedure may change slightly for different xp versions but hopefully you can see the principles.
Thankyou.........
