12 May - Fiver and FiveUSA channel numbers changing:
Fiver moves from 36 to 30
FiveUSA moves from 35 to 31
According to this report on DigitalSpy (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitaltv/a154137/fiver-five-usa-to-change-freeview-slots.html)
14 May - Quest launches
20 May - Virgin1 starts 24 Hour transmission, and a (12 Hour) +1 version launches on Channel 35
Virgin1 will be moving multiplex, but staying on channel 20, and therefore a rescan will be necessary.

Oh good, another pointless +1 channel. On the up side, I'm looking forward to seeing what programming Quest brings to the mix :)
Thanks for the info Barry.

Sometimes the +1 can be useful.....
Users in the Stockland Hill transmitter region are going to have an interesting time. Besides what I posted above, they have DSO 6 May, and 20 May.

Sometimes the +1 can be useful.....Yep. I've used a +1 a couple of times to work round the two concurrent recordings limit. (And occasionally missed a recording because I forgot there was a +1 available :o )
But I do wish they'd stop messing around with odd channels every few weeks and just do a big update once every 6 or 12 months.
Can someone suggest the most painless way for those of us with favourite lists and timers set up to get these latest changes in reliably ... but without doing a defaults reset?

Quickest way which leads to least disturbance it to manually delete just the affected channels then manually scan just the affected MUX(es).

Hmmm, very occasionally. Virgin1, IMO, is total dross, so them using bandwidth with another +1 irks slightly.

What is it about digital broadcasting in this country. Freeview could be so much better, with improved picture quality and channels that are actually worth bothering with by axing the junk channels. We always seem to sell quality down the line in order to jam in more channels. The same applies to DAB as well. Ofcom have allowed bit rates to fall to frankly pathetic levels in just to sell more channel slots, or allow existing broadcasters to shoehorn in some pointless minority station.

phew!!

I sort of agree with you about DAB though. When it first came out I wondered what the point was - less quality than FM, and receivers that cost many times more than FM. Shall I get one? Let me think  ......
And things are still as bad now; I regularly see poxy little DAB radios advertised for £99  .

OK, OK. I'm sure it has its fans, and to be fair I did try some of the programmes on V1, but I thought they were dross. Just my opinion, as I said.

Actually, when DAB was first launched, the quality was better, and certain companies, TAG McLaren for one, really embraced it and produced a top notch, albeit v. expensive, tuner that made the most of the broadcast. It is Ofcom's spineless attitude that has allowed DAB to become the wet flannel it is now :(. I agree with you about the price of kitchen portables though, which is why I have a good quality 2nd hand hifi tuner, that does FM and DAB.

That's perhaps true, but we if we did away with +1s, the shopping channels, and some of other junk, then maybe ITV (and Dave) would actually broadcast in a bit rate that doesn't resemble a 15 year old, worn out VHS!!
