Is it possible to play widescreen films on the HDR without it distorting the image, if so how?
I have tried and failed to get the black bands above and below the image it just expands to fill the screen, I have tried all the options on my plasma and HDR to no avail ( I tried padding top and bottom during conversion to make up 720 lines but this did not work either).

caldirun, You should definitely be able to re-encode your source to create the required black bars above and below the picture (letterbox mode). Check out the thread HERE (http://www.hummy.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=6340) which has a screenshot of a widescreen video re-encoded with back bars being played on the HDR. You did not mention what pixel size or container format your source video was, or what application you used to insert the bars during conversion. Widescreen movies have an aspect ratio of 2.35 to 1. Was your source video already 1280 pixels wide ? If so, the original height should have been 544 pixels. In this case a black bar of 88 pixels needs to be added to top and bottom to get the aspect ratio correct on a 16 to 9 screen. (88 x 2) + 544 = 720.

Problem now solved, I was encoding Mp4 to MpgII, I have now used Mp4 to Pal.ts, format is now correct and DD5.1 is working and I ticked all the original video options so nice and simple!

I am now using Total Video Converter to produce 1920X1080 .ts with 5.1DD sound then using AV2HDR to produce the 3 files for the HDR. The picture quality is stunning on my 42" Panasonic plasma, why cant we have broadcasts at this quality and remove all the crap channels that use up the bandwidth and no one watches?
