Hi everyone. http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I'm trying to transfer video from the Hummy to my PC with Humax MediaController V1.02. But to no avail.
I've installed the PVR with the USB drivers as suppplied - no errors. I start up HumaxMediaControl and it connects to the Hummy ok and displays the correct message of:
Humax PVR9200T connected

**Manufacturer**** : HUMAX Co., Ltd.
**Product Name**** : HUMAX PVR Mass Storage
**Serial No********: 534A1E013031
**Hardware Version : V1.00
**USB Version******: V2.00 (Full Speed, 12 Mbit/Sec)
**USB Endpoints****: Bulk Xfer In/Out (512 Byte Packet Size)

But if I try select any of the options [i.e. 1) disk; 2)disk C)hdir...etc] all i get in return is:
ERROR: setting disk no 2!

ERROR: retrieving device directory contents for!

Has any one any ideas? http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cussing.gif

FYI: I tried a couple usb cables, i've tried a completely different machine - same results. My spec is: 3GHz Pentium, 1GB Ram, Windows XP Pro (complete up-to-date). The hummy is latest s/w and loader. (and there are recorded programs on the hummy! http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunce.gif )
After trying intially with HumaxMediaControl, i uninstalled and tried the eLinker - but i get still get an error like, "failed to connect -restart device". http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cussing.gif

AHHH! This is the one feature I bought the hummy for! http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif Damn

Try using (X)fer then (A) Video Humax --> Host. Then type in the number to the left of the recording you want to transfer in the list of available recordings. (I gather you can put in several number separated by spaces to transfer several recording in one go, but haven't tried this.)

Hope this helps.

Thats for the rapid responce. Use (X)fer the (A) video, but still get the error of:
Transfer Video files from Humax to Host

**[** A] Humax Source**2:/
**[** B]**Host Target**C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\My Documents\Downloads\Hu
maxMediaControllerV1.02\

ERROR: setting disk no 2!

ERROR: retrieving device directory contents for!

Then it goes back to

FILE TRANSFER MENU

[A] Video**Humax -> Host
[B] MP3****Host -> Humax
[C] MP3****Humax -> Host
[D] Image**Host -> Humax
[E] Image**Humax -> Host

I seem to remember that in one of the Media Controller threads, either here or over at DigitalSpy, there were instructions on something you had to do if you'd already had E-linker installed on your system before Media Controller would work. (If I find find the thread I'll post a link in this thread for you.)

Also, if you don't come out of Media Controller cleanly it leaves the USB port on the Hummy in an 'undefined state', which, as I understand it, means that until you do a power cycle on the Hummy (to get it back into a 'defined state') and possibly a reboot on the PC you won't be able to make another reliable connection between the two. I'd unplug the usb cable before power cycling the Hummy (using the switch on it's back) and rebooting the PC. Once they're both back up & running plug the cable back in and try Media Controller again.

Hope this helps.

Just another thought, have you tried unplugging ALL other USB devices plugged into your PC just in case it's a power issue on the USB bus? (I had problems with an internal flash memory card reader and my Hauppauge Nova-T USB2 tuner even though one was using mobo ports and one was using a USB PCI card - even tried the Nova-T USB2 through a powered hub! I only get a reliable connection to the Nova-T with the internal card reader disconnected.)

Hi befuddled,

It's worth checking out the following link to a thread on the DS forum for some ideas on USB connection problems. There's quite alot there but worth skimming through:

http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showth...t=391072&page=3 (http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=391072&page=3)

It should hopefully give you some ideas of where to start with the problems you are having.

Regards,
Andy.

This got me thinking: http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angelic.gif

I have been using the front USB ports of both of the computers I tested on (both have card readers also), and quick switch-a-roo to the back USB ports and viola! http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smartass.gif Transfer complete! (570MB in 7minues) http://www.hummy.org.uk/invison/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerdy.gif

Cheers again

Befuddled, I couldn't even get as far as you! I carefully followed the download site's instructions as to how to uninstall eLinker cleanly before installing it.

It installed it OK, but when I tried to use it, hitting any command key in the command window just froze my PC totally. A number of times I left the PC for anything up to an hour just to see if any sign of life would appear afterwards, and to no avail. I would try power-cycling the Hummy to see if it uncleared the blockage, but to no avail.

I restarted everything and retried everything about 10 times in all, using all different user profiles on my computer, and every time the same thing - upon connecting, instant freeze - no mouse movement, Ctrl+Alt+Del not responding, having to perform a hard reset.

So I had no choice but to uninstall it and go back to eLinker. And God, what a mess that was, trying to uninstall it. Even following the uninstall instructions, I was re-installing eLinker and yet the Windows Driver Update Wizard would keep cutting in and putting the "STB Alternate Service" (the god-awful driver from Media Controller) back in place of the proper one.

I searched for all occurences of the INF file on the C: Drive and deleted it, and deleted the folder that HMC had been installed into (as uninstalling it didn't remove that folder). Yet still Windows kept managing to find that stupid INF file and putting it back. I eventually found that all I had to do was go into Device Properties, select the USB port the Hummy was connected to, go to the 'Driver' tab, then 'Update Driver' and re-select the INF file manually off the Humax CD. Quite why I should have had to do all that anyway when I had supposedly uninstalled that unofficial crap of no use at all, I can't fathom.

To get to run had to remove humaxusb.dll file from System32 folder ( driver not showing in Device Manager ) and E-linker software. Works well on my computer ( but so does eLinker ) at speed of 1.3MB/sec
